Thunderful Games Acquires Somerville’s Jumpship Studio – Destructoid

Nominative determinism in action

Publisher Thunderful Games has announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire British independent studio Jumpship. This acquisition makes Jumpship the 10th studio to join the Thunderful portfolio and the first purchase since the creation of new CEO Anders Maiqvist.

“The level of intrigue that Jumpship managed to generate for their debut title shows you that they are a team with deep artistic vision,” writes Agostino Simonetta of Thunderful Games in a press release. “Adding to our already diverse and accomplished roster of talent under the Thunderful Studios umbrella is an important part of our strategy to build strong internal IPs. We look forward to supporting the Jumpship team in harnessing their skills to create impactful narrative experiences as they continue to craft fantastic titles within the Thunderful family.

Founded in 2017 by Chris Olson and PlayDead co-founder Dino Patti, the first version of Jumpship, Somerville, out today November 15 and is about a young family’s encounter with an intergalactic invasion. Just like previous PlayDead hits Limbo and On the inside, Somerville sports a strong atmospheric slant, evocative and stylistic visuals, and light platforming and puzzle-based challenges.

Dino Patti also spoke about his excitement and confidence in acquiring Thunderful.

“I feel really good about partnering with Thunderful and what it will do for Jumpship,” Patti said. “I have known Agostino for a very long time and we have built a solid relationship of trust. We’ve been talking about this possibility for about a year, and over that time I’ve become more and more convinced that this is a great opportunity for Jumpship and Thunderful.

Somerville launches today on Xbox, PC, and Xbox Game Pass.
