Now you can play the Pony Island Developer Scary Card Game Demo
Inscryption is said to be “an inky card-based odyssey that mixes deck-building roguelike, escape room-style puzzles, and psychological horror in one bloody smoothie.” It’s also from Daniel Mullins, the creators of Pony Island and The Hex, which means it’s probably a few other secret genres as well. It’s coming October 19, but a demo is available now and a new trailer below.
Yeah, see, I think I saw a few genres not mentioned in this video.
Mullins’ previous games have been great in part for the surprises they contain, which has always made it difficult to convince people how awesome they are without spoiling them. For this reason, it’s probably a good thing that Scryption has a demo, so you can try it out for free and experience the appeal for yourself. You can download it on Steam now.
It’s also worth noting that Scryption is based on Sacrifices We Made, a free game from Mullins that is still available for download at Itch.io. The encryption seems considerably more extensive, but the central mechanic of the card game seems to be present in Sacrifices.
If you want to know at least a little more about Mullins’ previous games, read our review of Pony Island, in which we call it one of the smartest games of 2016. Our love of following The Hex wasn’t wholeheartedly, but John said it was “very funny, so busy with great ideas, and really weird.”
Inscryption seems to continue in the spirit, if not in the genre. It will cost £ 15.19 / € 18 when it launches on October 19 on Steam.
