NBA 2K22 review: 22 thoughts on shooting, dribbling and MyTeam

There is a saying in the world of sports games that you never have to buy the next year’s game. Many times, sports video games look similar. The gameplay is reminiscent of the previous year. There aren’t a lot of new modes to explore. The game is relatively the same except for the major updates in the roster which warrant an upgrade.

So that was obviously a concern for NBA 2K22, this year’s version of the NBA video game. After the decent play of NBA 2K20 and the mixed NBA 2K21, there were a lot of questions about what NBA 2K22 would bring to the table. These questions have only grown as NBA 2K22 has not released a demo version of the game, which it has been doing for years. There was no gameplay sequence. There were few trailers of the game and the players in it.

Well, NBA 2K22 officially dropped out in the United States, giving basketball fans another chance to take the field and compete with their favorite NBA stars. And let me tell you, this is not a copy and paste game. It is a game that deserves to be improved, if you are looking for a new NBA game.

But you are not here to know if you should buy it. You are here because you want to know what makes it good, bad and ugly. So here are 22 things I noticed while playing the game the first day before it launched.

1. Games in NBA 2K22 run more smoothly.

Everything fits together perfectly and works perfectly. Your players find the right places. Defense is working together. The offense understands the games and runs to the right places. Everything is working fine right now, and that’s a positive sign for the life of the game.

2. NBA 2K22 is so sleek and clean.

There is no other way to describe it. The game is just super sleek and clean. As you go through the menus, the game’s design is so smooth that you don’t notice any weird glitches.

3. It looks like a whole new game.

Seriously. NBA 2K22 looks like a brand new game for NBA 2K21. It has less of an arcade feel and looks like a fresh take on the NBA gaming world. It was difficult to adjust to the new game as the mechanics, player setup and pitch dimensions seemed different and more realistic. It will take time for you to adjust to the new game, and that’s a good thing.

4. The new NBA 2K22 counter is easy to use.

NBA 2K22 has added a new shot counter, which is a tool that appears next to your player to help you measure your shot and decide when your player should release the ball. In previous games, the meter was small and maybe over your player’s head. This year the counter is a long arc that appears behind your player. In the easier modes it’s fun to play around with because you can customize the animation that occurs after a shot is taken – the default is a flame – and the sound the game makes when you hit a perfect shot (called “green” or “green” your shot).

5. Shooting is bearable in NBA 2K22.

Fortunately, yes. One of the trickier parts of NBA 2K21 was that the shot was broken. The game has added a new feature where you have to use your controller’s joystick to shoot. This made the shots unbearable during the early days of the game. Fortunately, you can actually shoot in NBA 2K22 and you don’t have to worry about any issues with that.

6. MyTeam mode is already top notch.

2K has improved the fantastic MyTeam mode so much this year. There’s a lot more customization to do with building your own shoes, scoring your cards (we’ll get to that later), and picking out your players’ unique skills. The mode also offers plenty of challenges and pickup games to keep offline players busy for the long haul. So it’s nice to see 2K serving the needs of both offline and online gamers.

7. MyTeam now offers you three jerseys.

One little underrated feature that is new to MyTeam mode is having home / away / alternative jerseys. Before, you only had home and away jerseys. Now you can have three different which is great. The other cool aspect – you can use any swimsuit for any location. So let’s say you want to use the retro purple Utah Jazz jerseys for a home shirt and the orange and red City edition for the away. You absolutely can do it!

8. PSA card scoring is a fun addition to NBA 2K22.

Speaking of MyTeam, the mode has a card rating feature, much like the PSA card rating that happens in real life, where people can have their cards revised so they can sell them for higher prices. students. The same thing happens in MyTeam, and it’s a great feature for fans who like to trade sports cards.

9. How to dribble in NBA 2K22 (it’s more difficult).

During this time, the dribbling is more difficult. The game made it difficult to combine dribbling moves and finding the best moves to perform. Now it takes a bit more skill on the sticks to get your player to perform soft grips. This is the one that players will try to solve as the game progresses.

10. Load times are still slow on the current generation NBA 2K22.

I play this on the current generation of gaming consoles, and the load times are so slow. It takes forever to load new screens, which will be a nagging source of frustration for gamers who want to jump into a game quickly.

11. All-Star mode is more difficult, but playable.

One problem with recent NBA 2K games is that the more difficult modes often seem extremely difficult. This is not the case this year. You have to be a little better on the pitch, of course. But the most difficult modes always seem to be at hand.

12. NBA 2K22 art, design adds punch.

The game is filled with fun art. The cover alone has an impressive fresco by Luka Doncic, and you see this artwork spaced out throughout the game. It makes the game feel nice and smooth.

13. NBA 2K22 defense is much better.

Defense is much better than in 2K21. Computer gamers move better and read gamers more easily, giving you a better gaming experience. It’s so much better than last year.

14. You can’t go wrong when playing NBA 2K22.

Don’t even think for a second that you can make a last second move from one baseline to another. It won’t work. The ball will be stolen. But that’s about the change of the game. You have to be better, faster, more precise, and smarter with your games to beat the defense.

15. NBA 2K22 is less about luck.

In NBA 2K20 and NBA 2K21, a lot of the gameplay felt like luck. You would or would not score depending on what the computer’s algorithm wanted. Many gamers would complain that the algorithm caught them, which meant they were going to miss all their shots so the CPU could win. Well, it feels less like that so far this year.

16. There is a lot to do in NBA 2K22.

There is so much going on in the game right now between Draft mode, MyTeam, MyCareer, MyNBA and more. This game keeps adding new features.

17. The NBA 2K22 shooting competition is confusing.

It is not known whether the shooting challenge works completely or not. Reports suggest that shot challenge – when a player disputes a shot against you – would work more realistically compared to previous years. But my players always found open shots and nailed them, even with a contest.

18. Blocking of shots is OP in NBA 2K22.

That said, blocking shots is a huge new factor in NBA 2K22. It’s overkill. Your players will block their opponents’ crap. Seriously. In one of my games, Kevin Durant hit the ball in the rafters against Kemba Walker. It was a fun twist on the fire blocking feature, which is often flat and not very exciting in the game.

19. NBA 2K22 has so many cruise ships.

So many cruise ships! You can find the cruise ship in the MyCareer mode which is great. But the MyTeam mode also allows you to play on land that is on a cruise ship!

20. NBA 2K22 reminds me of the real NBA.

The graphics, display, and advertisers all deliver a picture of a realistic NBA game. Someone might come by and think NBA 2K22 is actually the NBA. This is how good the game looks.

21. Looking to the future?

It’s an interesting approach to remaking an entire sports game that you know will sell, especially one that comes after two mediocre versions of NBA 2K20 and NBA 2K21. This one is a little different and might indicate what sports games should always look like to rebuild when they can.

22. Overall, NBA 2K22 is worth improving.

It’s so much fun when things are going well. Hopefully it stays that way. If so, the upgrade is worth it.
