Liverpool 1-1 Crystal Palace recap: Diaz goal, score, goals, highlights, Premier League
Klopp confident goals will come for Diaz
Luis Diaz’s finish let him down at Fulham, but Jurgen Klopp says the Colombia international can score 10-15 goals this season.
Jurgen Klopp is confident the goals will come for Luis Diaz after the winger was useless in the 2-2 draw at Fulham last weekend.
Diaz missed two ‘great chances’ set by Opta in the Reds’ opening game of the Premier League season at Craven Cottage, rattling the post in the first half.
The Colombia international was quick to settle at Anfield after his big move from Porto in January, scoring six goals and providing five assists in 26 appearances last season.
Liverpool lost Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich in June, but Klopp is backing Diaz to help fill the void left by the Senegal striker.
When asked if Diaz could score 10-15 goals this season, the Reds manager replied: “Oh definitely that’s his quality. We have to see but of course that’s his potential.
“We’re working on it but not with Luis in particular. We’re not taking him out because the other two scored and he didn’t, so we show him how. It’s not necessary. It’s not a problem. You can’t force it
“Last week people were asking ‘How can you play without Sadio?’ but in November/December everyone was thinking about when he would score the next goal, and Mo [Salah] was on fire. You just let it go.
“You see the situations that Luis had, big chances, and he just wasn’t lucky. He started day one with us and was in all the sessions and that’s the most important thing. .
“Everything else will come. In the long term, that’s of course not a problem. It’s about being prepared and fighting through times like this.”
