Jarret Doege threw three touchdown passes, Leddie Brown scored two and West Virginia toppled the Cyclones 38-31 on Saturday.
West Virginia (4-4, 2/3 Big 12) came to life on offense after averaging 20 points in their first four conference games.
“We wanted to make a statement about how good a football team we really are,” Doege said.
Iowa State (5-3, 3-2) missed leading tackle Mike Rose with an undisclosed injury and the league’s best defense gave up 492 yards, a season-high. The linebacker had started the previous 45 games of his career. The Cyclones had kept their previous seven opponents under 350 yards.
