Hockey Day New Ulm offers 15 games this weekend | News, Sports, Jobs
NEW ULM – If you are a local hockey fan then the place to go this weekend is the New Ulm Civic Center.
Fifteen hockey games – starting Friday night at 7:45 p.m. when New Ulm Steel host Granite City in an NA3HL game – will be followed by 14 games starting at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday as âNew Ulm Hockey Dayâ sets off.
When Steel hosts Granite City on Friday night, the game’s sponsor is the Liquor Mart in New Ulm. Five $ 25 gift cards to local restaurants will be drawn during the game courtesy of Liquor Mart.
It ends Saturday night at 7:10 p.m. when the Steel wraps up their weekend streak against the Lumberjacks. The sponsor of the Saturday night game is Schell’s Brewery and they will be handing out merchandise prizes.
The teams playing the 14-game schedule on two ice sheets are the New Ulm Squirt “VS,” new ulm squirt “B,” Pee wee “B,” Jet “A,” Pee wee “A” and Bantam “B,” 10U girls and 12U girls.
All New Ulm teams will play against Minnesota River teams except Squirt “Like,” who will play Faribault and the Bantams “B” who play River Lakes.
The New Ulm JV Girls and College Girls play at noon and 2:30 p.m. respectively against Minnesota River in Big South Conference games.
The Eagles JV boys meet the Minnesota River at 2 p.m., while the college plays at 4 p.m. on the Olympic ice.
At 4:15 p.m. on the regulation ice sheet, the 10U girls play followed at 5:30 p.m. by the 12U girls.
At 6:45 p.m. the Bantam “Like” play on the regulation ice sheet and at 7:10 p.m., the Steel faced Granite City again.
All children wearing a hockey jersey at the Steel game enter for free and will be able to skate with the Steel after their Saturday game.
There will also be a “Silent auction” Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., for several large sporting goods.
“Each New Ulm / Sleepy Eye hockey team has put together a basket of products that people can bid on” said Mike Peterson, director of hockey operations for New Ulm. âWe also have food, including sauerkraut and landjÃ¤egers. We will also be having a skills competition from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Civic Center conference room and the cost is $ 5 for players only. And we will have a “Chuck-A-PuckâContest on all matches played only on the north rink between the second and the third period. “
Players of the New Ulm men’s and women’s hockey teams will sign autographs after their matches.
And the Tom Macho Award will be presented between the first and second periods of the New Ulm-Minnesota River boys’ hockey game.
