Students who play online games perform better in school https://panamgames.org/students-who-play-online-games-perform-better-in-school/ Mon, 27 Jun 2022 00:41:28 +0000 https://panamgames.org/students-who-play-online-games-perform-better-in-school/ Technology is closely related to everyone’s life. Technology is closely related to everyone’s life. And it is constantly evolving, creating new job opportunities, but also solutions that make our lives easier. Solutions that protect the environment. Today’s society is described by green cars, social media, video platforms, online books and e-readers, 3D technology, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and many more . Nor should we forget video games, an industry that is slowly but surely developing.

Not only college students play video games, but everyone else. Research shows that over 90% of kids play video games, which is huge. And if some might think that only children play video games, they are wrong. More than half of Americans play video games. Almost half of adults over 50 play video games, so it can be said that they are quite popular among all age groups.

But as more and more people begin to immerse themselves in the virtual world created by these games, parents and educators fear that their effects will not be positive. Let’s discuss the effects of video games on students’ education and academic performance.

Improve teamwork skills

Teamwork is one of the very important skills for academic progress and school life. Any student who gets an education will be involved in group projects. In addition to participating in the right course and paying attention to the lesson, they will have to complete powerful projects that will allow them to obtain a good grade.

Studies have shown that students who play video games cooperatively score higher on tests than those who play alone. There is a group of students who emphasize competition more than cooperation between teammates. Their test scores are lower than those of students who value teamwork.

Teamwork is essential, not only during the school years, but also in your career and your adult life. In college, for example, students must solve mathematical problems of university statistics. But not everyone has the skills to perform these tasks. Peers and colleagues can help those in need. This will promote better school results. There are college statistics problems to solve and teamwork can help the group or team move forward even further.

pay attention effectively

Ever since video games entered our lives, we have been fascinated by them. There are so many game genres to choose from and immerse yourself in. There are good video games and good learning, but many parents point out the negative effects of play video games. Well, studies show that those who play video games train their attention.

During the game, they have to pay attention to visual cues and not just to complete the game mission. They have to focus only on the stimuli that matter and could make a difference, so their attention is trained to be selective. This has a positive effect on students’ academic progress and can help them achieve better results. Attention is involved in all academic progress.

But it is mainly put to work during lessons and writing tasks when students have to select relevant information. This will help them focus on the important details rather than the trivial ones.

Superior motivation

The effects of video games on student academic achievement are not fully understood in society. Even though playing video games non-stop prevents you from developing other parts of you and keeping your body active, they also have benefits. Video games in education research can be used, especially since there are many game genres to choose from.

When we think of video games, most people imagine shooting games. However, recent research has shown that children who play video games have higher levels of motivation. Choosing educational games for them that promote learning while having fun will make them more motivated to pursue their academic goals.

Schools and colleges have mainly emphasized extrinsic motivation or external rewards such as good grade, bonus points for exam, etc. But research in psychology shows that intrinsic motivation is more powerful and leads to better academic results.

This draws attention to the way the curriculum is constructed and the teaching methods used by professors to convey information. It seems that educational video games are a good method to create interesting material and help students learn.

Final Thoughts

There is a negative bias that surrounds the video game industry. Even though it is constantly changing, many people say that playing video games affects your school performance. Well, studies have shown that it’s not like that. Students who actively play video games improve their skills.

They learn to work as a team and to cooperate with their teammates. They train their attention to pay attention to relevant cues and information. This will help them select the information when they are researching or writing their essays. And educational video games provide an enjoyable, fun, and engaging opportunity to learn. Which will feed their love for learning.

rick and morty is a show that has become one of the most popular cartoons in recent memory. First airing in 2013, the show has developed a large fanbase and global appeal, and has, predictably, evolved and expanded into other forms of media.

One of the most obvious forms of media that rick and morty lent himself to his video games. That being said, the relationship between the franchise and video games has been pretty inconsistent, spanning multiple platforms and genres with no clear overall structure.

GAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Pocket Mortys

The first fairly large-scale officially licensed title to come under the rick and morty the name was that of the 2016 mobile game Pocket Mortys. The game is a typically ironic parody of the Pokemon franchise, in which the player explores a top-down open world as deranged scientist Rick Sanchez, capturing different variations of his grandson Morty to train and battle other Mortys.

As pokemon, combat is turn-based, with over 200 Morty types to catch and battle. Considering that the game’s plot is concerned with exploring dimensions to discover new variations of Morty, it ties into the overall themes of the series in a pretty clever and engaging way.

Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality

Certainly the most prominent rick and morty game so far came with Virtual Rick-alityreleased in 2017. As the name suggests, the game was made for VR headsets, being an interactive experience within the Sanchez house featuring many references to the many storylines and gags of the show itself.

The game was published by Adult Swim and was well received by fans upon release, prompting the company to release a Collector’s Edition. Virtual Rick-ality. While the franchise hasn’t dipped back into the VR medium since this game was released, it’s safe to say that it’s definitely left its mark.

Rick and Morty Crossover With Other Games

Apart from its own officially licensed games, rick and morty had a lot of crossover content with many other top releases. Perhaps more particularly, rick and morty collaborated with Fortnite in releasing in-game skins for both main characters, being one of many franchises to collaborate with the wildly popular Battle Royale shooter.

rick and morty had advertiser packs for DOTA 2as well as a segment where the pair explore the world of Minecraft in the show itself. rick and morty has also been the subject of numerous Easter eggs, with the likes of Borderlands 3 featuring the “Wick and Warty” NPCs, for example. The show has firmly established itself in the contemporary pop culture zeitgeist, which has made its transition into video games all the more seamless and inexorable.

Raised on life

The latest foray from the creators of rick and morty in the video game world should arrive with the recently announced first-person shooter Raised on life. Slated for release in October, the title is being developed by Squanch Games, which was founded by rick and morty designer Justin Roiland in 2016.

The studio released the well-received Accounting in 2016, as well as Trover saves the universe in 2019, and Raised on life is set to be his most ambitious project to date. Adopting the same iconic humor, the same artistic style and the same voices of rick and mortythe game is intrinsically tied to the franchise despite not being a spin-off of the series.

Raised on life even inspired by rick and morty madness in its story, which will see players take control of a bounty hunter who rescues humans who are being used as drugs by alien cartels. The relation between rick and morty and video games are definitely weird and have taken on many different identities, but with Squanch Games only growing in size, fans should expect to see a lot more officially licensed games in the future.

The upcoming Nightingale video game has a few twists, but those won’t include support for 1,000 players.

Why is this important: The game, categorized as a “survival crafting” adventure, is itself a survivor of a major shift in business plans.

Details: Nightingale debuted in December at The Game Awards, wowing audiences with its unusual setting: a magical version of Victorian England, filled with gas lamps, guns, dragons and many portals.

  • In February, the game was back in the news as its Canadian studio, Inflexion Games, has been sold by Unproven UK tech start-up Unlikely to Chinese gaming giant Tencent, which is seeking to support more games made in the West.
  • Nightingale invites players to battle computer-controlled enemies through a fantasy version of the Industrial Revolution, giving them the ability to build bases and communities in the virtual world.

Nightingale was in development under Unlikely since late 2018 and was meant to be a tech showcase for the startup, Inflexion CEO Aaryn Flynn told Axios.

  • “The original genesis of the studio was to create a game that would show off their technology: SpatialOS, their large-scale network,” Flynn said.
  • The game was similar in many ways to the Nightingale that audiences saw, but would use SpatialOS to render a virtual world with 1,000 players.
  • The technology proved difficult to work with and Improbable and Inflexion agreed to a split late last year. This killed the idea of 1,000 players. “We had a prototype, and it looked pretty cool. But as you can imagine, it creates its own creative challenges,” Flynn said.

The current regime is for Nightingale to support solo players and small groups of players, if not leaving the settings and design ideas forged during the Improbable era intact, Flynn said.

  • Inflexion is aiming for a late 2022 release, first in Early Access for PC on Steamwith more features added in the future.
  • Survival games are among the most popular genres on Steam, with hits like Valheim and V Rising exploding last year.

The bottom line: Flynn thinks there is room for more and hopes NightingaleThe distinct frame will help it stand out.

  • “We’re always nervous to reveal something you’ve spent years working on,” Flynn said. “You’re like, ‘God, what if that doesn’t resonate? What if people were just like, ‘What? I don’t want to play this. But it was awesome. Everyone has been super positive.

How Robert Heinlein’s novel Starship Troopers influenced nearly every sci-fi first-person shooter on the market in a positive (and less effective) way.

DOOM, Halo, Gears of War, Titanfall, Helldivers, Warhammer 40K, Starcraft – all these games and many others owe their existence to Starship Troopers novel published by author Robert Heinlein in 1959, which popularized the “Space Marines battling alien insects” tropes so common in the FPS and RTS video game genres. Intentionally or not, many of these sci-fi video games also internalize the not-quite-dominant politics expressed in Heinlein’s original book – a lionization of elite all-volunteer military forces, brutal conflicts between individualistic societies and collectivists, and the belief that violence is a tool humans need to survive in a hostile universe.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

Nowadays, more people know Starship Troopers from its 1997 film adaptation by Dutch director Paul Verhoeven. Upon its release, many Robert Heinlein fans criticized Verhoeven’s adaptation for portraying the mobile infantry as incompetent and fragile cannon fodder that lacked the Mecha suits of the book and games. Aside from the cool military gear, the book and movie were also completely reversed; while the Starship Troopers was a Cold War allegory about the clash between the Western and Eastern blocs, the Starship Troopers was a dark satire on the dangers of fascism and the glorification of violence (to the point of invoking images from the old Nazi propaganda film triumph of the will).

Related: Aliens: Fireteam Elite’s Season 1: Phalanx Class Kit & New Weapons

Although very different in tone, both the Starship Troopers the books and movies follow the same plot in broad strokes; in a distant land ruled by an Earth federation, a teenage hero named Juan “Johnny” Rico joins an Earth defense force called Mobile Infantry and fights in a war between Earth and a species of alien lifeforms colloquially known as Bugs . the original Starship Troopers the novel spent more time discussing politics than exploring the details of future warfare; Yet Heinlein’s book ended up shaping the “future super-soldier” archetype for decades to come in science fiction novels like Joe Haldeman’s. The Eternal Warby James Cameron aliens movie, and virtually every FPS video game with a Space Marine protagonist.

Doom & Halo’s Space Marines are based on Starship Troopers Mobile Infantry

The Doom Slayer of Lossthe Master Chief of Halo franchise, Samus Aran of the metroid series – these are just a few of the video game protagonists who can be described as “Space Marines” – elite armored super-soldiers who drop onto their targets from space. These Space Marine characters and the weapons they wield owe much to Colonial Marines with the firepower of aliens film, which themselves owe much to the mobile infantry of the Starship Troopers new elite soldiers equipped with mechanized combat suits that give them the power of a tank. The mobile infantry of Starship Troopers and the other fictional Space Marine armies they’ve inspired are invariably small, elite volunteer forces with the best gear and a “leave no one behind” attitude, making them a solid character archetype for games. FPS like LOSS Where Halo where the protagonist fights his way through hordes of stretchy, non-human goons.

Starship Troopers inspired not-so-great “Cult Of The Badass” themes in modern FPS games

Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate Daemonhunters Space Marine Gray Knight Battle Blanket

The Terran Federation of Starship Troopers is a society built around the idea that violence is the only way to control other violent people and that the right to vote should only go to those who are able to sacrifice themselves. Many sci-fi action games echo these ideals – and that’s not always a good thing. The values advocated by Heinlein – heroism, sacrifice, duty, strength and the will to commit violence – are at the heart of the esprit de corps many modern armies and many sci-fi FPS games.

These are also values adopted by the fascist archetype described by Umberto Eco in his Ur-fascism essay, which seeks perpetual conflict against an eternal subhuman threat. With this in mind, Paul Verhoeven Starship Troopers movie (and similar theme helldivers third-person shooter) seek to remind people that the original’s “humans vs. bugs” plot and “Service Equals Citizenship” message Starship Troopers and similar FPS video games about future warfare, in the wrong circumstances, can easily be misused to justify atrocities.

Here’s what we said in our official Lightyear review by guest host Charlie Ridgley:

Light year could absolutely work as an original title — toy story really isn’t necessary to make the story or the characters enjoyable. But the connection is used about as perfectly as it could be. There are a few lines reminiscent of Buzz’s catchphrases in toy story, but the story never relies on Andy’s bedroom adventures. Instead, it offers the opportunity to unbox a much more interesting version of the deeply human toy that has been part of our lives for almost 30 years. Light year aims for infinity and more than delivers, taking us a little further than we expected.
