Thursday January 6th was an exciting day for Filipino players, especially players from valiant, as its publisher and developer Riot Games revealed that their new agent, Neon, is not only a Filipino character, but is also voiced by Filipino voice actor Vanille Velasquez.

Vanille also made the announcement on Twitter, with her tweet garnering over 55,000 likes and 6,400 retweets at the time of publication.

Since joining the now defunct Hero TV anime cable channel Dubbing Academy in 2016, Vanille’s resume of dubbing roles only grew. Below is a quick list of his Facebook page. You can also see her voice acting show through this link.

  • Jelly, Ben & Pogo – a series of cartoon shorts on PBS Kids in the US where she plays the main character Jelly
  • little savage – a Singaporean animated series on Netflix where she plays Kokeko, a character she describes as a “fabulous otter”
  • Ikai – an upcoming horror game on Steam, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch where she plays the playable character Naoko
  • Valor Legends: Eternity – an Android and iOS mobile game where she plays the characters Gisela, Renee, Diana, Vazquez and Nancy
  • Bayani – a Filipino fighting game based on historical Filipino figures where she plays the character of Tsora, based on Melchora Aquino
  • Genesis – a multiplayer online combat arena (MOBA) on PS4 and PC where she plays Selinda
  • The noisy house – a Nickelodeon cartoon where she plays Lana and Lisa in the Filipino dub

And on Friday January 7, Vanille added another important element to her resume: voicing the new champion, Zeri, in one of today’s biggest MOBAs, League of Legends.

Needless to say, it’s been an exciting few days for the voice actor. We caught up with Vanille for a quick email chat, and she shared her experience with Neon – a win for Filipino portrayal in video games.

Q: You are obviously very excited and proud of Neon’s reveal! We have seen your posts on social media. But take us back a bit. How did you feel when you first got the job? And how it was while you were recording Neon’s voices knowing that valiant is one of the biggest games around?

It was as exciting as it was scary, because I knew how big it is and that’s what makes it a double-edged sword. Because it’s a big deal, there’s this pressure that she has to be perfect. And I felt that pressure but I gave everything for it and I just hope it shows in my performance.

Q: How did you approach the challenge of bringing Neon to life? What went through your mind to shape the character? Any interesting excerpt from when the valiant did the team give you instructions on how to shape Neon?

Well, I haven’t really done much in terms of Neon’s personality. It was really the writers. I was just told how she was, what she looked like, and it’s just a coincidence that our personalities are a bit similar, haha. I guess my contribution is to improvise some of the Tagalog lines she says. Not all of them are improvised, just to clarify, but Riot was very supportive of my adding Tagalog, so when I can think of one, I would provide another one-line version (in English) translated into Tagalog. There are also times when my script would just tell me to add something in Tagalog, as was the case with the teaser I recorded of Neon calling his parents. I added, “Sige, babay, no, Tay. “ (Alright, bye, mum, dad.)

Q: What were the most difficult parts of the project and the funniest parts as well?

I would say the hardest part was really getting rid of the pressure. I really felt – and still feel – this huge responsibility of being the voice of Neon. I represent her and the Filipinos in a way and it can really make you anxious and nervous whether you are doing a good job or not. But everything I did in this role, I did it with all my heart to make the Pinoy players proud.

The funniest part is definitely saying all the lines in Tagalog! I had never heard Tagalog in a mainstream game before, so it was really cool for me, as a gamer myself, to hear my native language in a video game as huge as valiant. I get very excited every time I say something in Tagalog.

Q: What was the audition process like? Can you tell us a bit about how you got the job?

I had two auditions, a month apart. I just had them at home, using my home recording setup. In a way, I think it made things less scary for me because at least my surroundings were familiar. But don’t get me wrong, I was so nervous! I was contacted by the online casting producer. I just got an email one day and at first didn’t know it was Riot Games until I signed a nondisclosure agreement. For a while, I think I wondered if this was really Riot Games in my inbox. It was surreal.

Q: It’s still the pandemic, so we’re assuming you were still recording in your mom’s closet? How is the acoustics there?

Even though my auditions were recorded at home, I actually had to go to a professional recording studio for the game! At the time, I was taking a break in the studios to work in original version because it wasn’t the safest and during the first few months of working on it, I wasn’t even vaccinated yet. (I am now.) But needless to say, this opportunity was far too huge to be denied! But I recorded at home for cool stuff too! Like Jelly, Ben & Pogo, a series of animated short films on PBS Kids in the United States.

Q: How is Project Neon different from all the projects you’ve done in the past?

Neon is very special because she is a Filipino character in a mainstream video game played all over the world. Whatever roles I land next, Neon will always be one of the highlights of my career. Voicing a Filipino character who is a big step in Filipino portrayal in video games will always make sense.

Q: Do you have a type of video game character that you would ever dream of expressing?

I’m a big fan of narrative games, like Life is strange (that’s why I was so happy to be in the same game as Ashly Burch, who plays Chloe in Life is strange and Viper in valiant!), and the Quantic Dream games. Even RPGs like the Final Fantasy series. I like story-driven games, which I also enjoy in valiant in terms of their tradition. So it would be a dream to be in a video game like that.

Q: What kinds of games do you like the most?

Games that focus on the story for sure. I would love to play in more competitive games, but I was always bad with them and was afraid of being heated up by my teammates, haha. But after that there’s absolutely no way I won’t play valiant. It is a given.

Q: Thanks to people for this project?

In real Neon fashion, I would scream my family! My mom and dad, who supported my career! And my little brother, who is the biggest valiant fan. I talk to the developers about him in my recording sessions all the time, to the point that sometimes they’re the ones who initiate and ask questions about him, hehe. – Rappler.com

Game support has gradually become more mainstream. Originally seen as a niche of interest to computer enthusiasts or children, the audience has grown and the medium has become even more lucrative. This type of profitability and exposure attracts leading personalities. While it would have been unthinkable for a famous musician to contribute pieces to a video game during the 8-bit era, it is not uncommon today.

As the audience for the media has changed, so has the technology. In the days of 8-bit and 16-bit, games had no room for Redbook audio, making it impossible to hire famous talents to compose music. However, with the introduction of CDs, games could have music with live instruments and vocals. Here are some examples of games whose music has been provided by professional talents.

ten Rise Of The Robots has music by Brian May

The rise of robots cropped

The rise of robots is a totally incompetent 2D fighter, whose only claim to fame was to be the only SNES cart to boast “Music by Brian May“on its packaging. This is true in the same sense as Alone at home presents a scene with Jimmy Stewart.

The title screen of the game is accompanied by a short clip of a heavily compressed version of “The Dark” by Brian May. Afterwards, these are completely original compositions by Richard Joseph. Apparently, the former Queen guitarist did compose a full soundtrack for the game, but it was banned by his record company.

9 Method Man and Capcom enter a world that has turned sour

Method Man World Gone Sour Cropped

From the slums of Shaolin, the Wu-Tang Clan strikes again. Surely Capcom, Method Man and Sour Patch Kids is a collaboration that could only happen in the world of video games. World turned sour is a 2D platform game reminiscent of titles such as Little big planet.

While this is a game apparently designed for kids, the tone is very subversive and filled with comedic self-mockery, thanks to a sarcastic narration from Creed Bratton of Office notoriety. Why Capcom put so much nerve and attitude into a game devoted solely to advertising a recognizable candy brand is a mystery.

8 Lost Odyssey presents two songs by Sheena Easton

At Hironobu Sakaguchi Lost odyssey was essentially an SNES JRPG with HD graphics and Hollywood production values. While the game mechanics were as basic as it gets, the creator of Final fantasy hadn’t lost touch when crafting emotionally resonating tales with well-rounded characters. Microsoft essentially gave Sakaguchi a blank check with this game, hiring acclaimed translator Jay Rubin and granting his colleague Final fantasy alum Nobuo Uematsu a live orchestra to work with. In addition to Uematsu’s sublime tracks, the game featured two songs with vocals provided by famous Scottish singer Sheena Easton.

seven The Rapture contributes to a piece of Diss in Grand Theft Auto IV

Grand Theft Auto IV Niko Bellic

A satire of American culture, Grand Theft Auto IVRadio stations feature many songs from many genres and artists. However, one song was created specifically for the game: a track by American rock band The Rapture titled “No Sex For Ben”. The song is essentially a diss track at the expense of Fat Truckers DJ Ben Rymer. Players can find the track on independent rock station Radio Broker. Thankfully, this is one of the few songs that didn’t fall victim to Rockstar’s Steam update, which removed several tracks from the game due to licensing issues.

6 Snoop Dogg prepares for the next battle at Tekken

Snoop Dogg Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Cropped

Tekken Tag Tournament and its sequel were non-canonical entries that allowed players to challenge each other with teams of two fighters. Since the game was free from the biggest canon in the series, even characters presumed dead were allowed to participate in the King of the Iron Fist tournament. Regarding the game’s soundtrack, producer Katsuhiro Harada said that despite the variety of sounds from previous games, they had never tackled rap before. This is how Snoop DO Double G himself contributed to “Knocc ‘Em Down” and even appeared on a stage in Tag Tournament 2.

5 David Bowie performed and composed music for The Nomad Soul

The nomadic soul was a graphical adventure developed by Quantum Dream and released for PC and Sega Dreamcast in 1999. The title also incorporated gameplay mechanics from other genres such as 2D fighters and first-person shooters. Director David Cage had a list of artists he wanted to recruit for this game, and publisher Eidos Interactive managed to get in touch with one of them. Songwriter David Bowie contributed ten tracks to the game and even lent his voice and image to a character named Boz. His wife Iman even lent her voice to a character.

4 Megadeth does a cover of Duke Nukem

Duke Nukem saves the day

It had been 12 years since the cigar-cracking movie about the hero saved Earth from aliens by Duke Nukem 3D. When Duke Nukem forever released in 2011, it was heavily criticized for its technical shortcomings, its overreliance on pop culture references, and its abrupt change of tone during the Alien Hive chapter.

While Masato Nakamura had contributed wonderful compositions in the first two Sonic titles, Sega first decided to bring in internal talent for the third entry. However, Michael Jackson was a fan of the series and approached the company from the perspective of contributing to the third game’s leads. There are conflicting reports as to what happened next. STI producer Roger Hector claims scandals led Sega of Japan to fire Jackson. Conversely, Brad Buxor affirms that Jackson was not satisfied with the Genesis sound chip and refused to be associated with a product that devalued his music.

2 Nine Inch Nails delivers the dark vibe of Quake

Short Quake Nine Inch Nails Logo

Trent Reznor was a huge fan of Loss, and Id Software frequently listened to Nine Inch Nails during the development of this game. It sounded like a collaboration that was meant to be when the two sides agreed to work together on Id’s groundbreaking third FPS, earthquake. Regarding the soundtrack, Trent Reznor said: “it is not music; it’s textures and moods and whirling machine noises and stuff. “In addition to including pieces of Nine Inch Nails, their logo appeared on nail gun ammo cases. earthquake, this is why the following ports suffered from their absence.

1 Paul McCartney pleads for the future of fate

The fate of Paul McCartney

When long Halo Composer Martin O’Donnell was approached with the prospect of collaborating with songwriter and Beatles singer Paul McCartney, he thought it was a joke. However, after hearing a few pieces of Scope of the halo, McCartney expressed interest in contributing a lead for Bungee’s successor destiny. He had never done a song for a video game before and relished the opportunity to do something he thought his grandchildren would enjoy. He compared the experience to the composition Live and Let Die for the James bond movie of the same name.

RELATED: Top 10 Most Popular Animes Of Spring 2021, According To MyAnimeList

Outside of stereotypes, there is an endless amount of genres specific to anime. With hundreds of animated series, several shows stand out as being a “must see” for beginners. Some shows make anime more accessible and showcase their special qualities.

ten Samurai Champloo remixes samurai storytelling with endless flair

Samurai Champloo Hip Hop References

Cowboy Bebop is Shinichiro Watanabe’s most popular series. Watanabe captures comparable energy in Samurai Champloo, a glorious hybrid of eclectic sensibilities that embraces samurai staples instead of Cowboy Bebop’s galactic backdrop. Samurai Champloo brings together an adorable trio of individuals who embark on an incredible quest full of action and monotony on a small scale. Samurai Champloo applies a hip hop mentality to combat sequences that make the show and the characters feel like such distinct individuals. Samurai Champloo is a perfect example of how anime doesn’t have to be one-dimensional.

9 FLCL uses the power of anime to unbox puberty and adolescence

Haruko Smashing With Guitar In FLCL

Growing up is not easy. This is why coming of age stories are so powerful. Anime is the perfect way to take something as universal as a teenage years and extrapolate it in a dizzying battle for life or death with ridiculously powerful individuals. FLCL is the perfect example of how to juxtapose the normality of life with chaos. Naota’s struggle, as well as the way he slowly comes out of his shell after meeting Haruko, highlights the power of anime. FLCL is only six episodes and doesn’t waste a single minute in this special growing up story.

8 Mobile Suit Gundam is the perfect introduction to sci-fi storytelling

Anime Mobile Suit Gundam Amuro Ray RX-78-2 Gundam Destroys Zaku

The mecha genre is another dense area that the anime can navigate. There are a lot of iconic series that make up the genre, but Mobile Suit Gundam has largely dominated the field through decades of storytelling and dozens of interconnected series, films and video games that expand the Gundam universe.

RELATED: 10 surreal anime that defy the genre

Gundam gradually worked in several timelines, but the original story of the universal century which feeds the first series is truly exceptional. Mobile Suit Gundam Approaches galactic politics, rambling underdogs, and gigantic robot battles with delicate care. This makes the dense material appear accessible and rooted in sci-fi staples.

seven Pop Team Epic is an absurd comedy anyone can enjoy

There are some extremely funny gag anime series that reach hilarious heights that seem impossible with other forms of animation. Some gag anime series can be too isolated with their credentials and are difficult to follow without a thorough knowledge of Japanese pop culture.

Pop epic team is a quick exception that puts just as much American pop culture in his sights like anything else. The chaotic comedy works with meme-like energy and has found its way onto Adult Swim. This is exactly the weird style of content that the programming block is proud of.

6 Death Parade uses storytelling of atypical anthologies to explore the human condition

Tatsumi (Death Parade)

Sometimes the length of an animated series or a complex narrative is the most deterrent. Death parade works like an unconventional study that uses mundane recreational activities like high stakes competitions with everlasting consequences. Death parade does a great job of examining the different walks of life that find themselves in this fatalistic situation, but it also offers a stimulating and unique portrayal of purgatory.

5 My Hero Academia Adopts Superhero Culture To Boost Its Shonen Instinct

Anime My Hero Academia Infinite 100% Deku Eri Attack

Superhero and comic book adaptations have never been so popular, so it’s only natural that some anime series are turning to this genre for inspiration. My hero university is a highly intelligent hybrid of superhero archetypes and shonen sensibilities. The series carefully tells the origin story of Izuku “Deku” Midoriya, along with dozens of his friends, as they become the country’s next generation of professional heroes.

RELATED: 10 clichés that don’t make sense in the genre of Shonen

My hero university is guilty of some prevalent shonen conventions, but its spotlight on superheroes and villains is enough to attract an illiterate anime audience.

4 Nana is a realistic tale of the pains of aging

Anime Babe

Nana is almost too authentic for its own good. The series is watching two young adults, both named Nana, who are trying to take control of their twenties, gain their independence and learn what they want out of life. This level of personal storytelling makes Nana deeply special and something everyone can enjoy.

3 The Great Pretender is a superlative heist story that would excel in any medium

Makoto, Laurent, Abigail and Cynthia from Great Pretender

There is no such thing as a well executed heist. Movies and TV series that capture the tense energy and meticulous planning that are essential to this style of storytelling can often achieve magical results. Visually, The great suitor is utterly gorgeous and uses color in an inspired way while showcasing smart, serialized scam schemes that never disappoint. The great suitor is pure happiness for any fan of crime dramas and heist stories.

2 Escaflowne’s vision is an Isekai series summed up with all the basics

Anime has countless isekai, fantasy, and action series, many of which reinforce stereotypes rather than innovate. Escaflowne’s vision is a series from the 90s which takes up many familiar ideas, but is able to synthesize them into something truly unique. Teenage Hitomi is taken to a fantasy world where dragons, robots and a royal rivalry are all in play, not to mention realizing her role as a central figure in this strange new universe. With only 26 episodes, Escaflowne is very manageable and offers something new to the anime that is familiar, but also distinctly different.

1 Hunter X Hunter thrives, rather than stumbles, thanks to Shonen stereotypes

Gon unleashes all of his Nen in Hunter X Hunter

An exhaustive shonen streak can be a red flag for people new to anime or hesitant to take the plunge. Some people don’t have time for hundreds of episodes of content. Lots of shonen sets are bloated and bogged down with filler, but Hunter x hunter is one of the most successful and creative series of its kind. Hunter x hunter has just under 150 episodes and triumphs where other shonen series have failed since each of its story arcs avoid repeating patterns. The series deserves a greater level of respect.

Metroid is something of a contradiction. The Metroid franchise is one of the most influential of all video games, incorporating a side-scrolling discovery-based design that, alongside Konami-owned Castlevania, created the informal genre known as “Metroidvania.” . Even so, the franchise hasn’t been a big hitter for Nintendo, far from it, as several games struggled to reach over a million copies sold, even with the introduction of hand-to-hand shooters. Premium first-person from Retro Studios.

However, with the launch of MercurySteam’s Metroid Dread, that may change. Metroid Dread is selling faster than any other Metroid game in history, with over 854,000 copies sold in October 2021 alone. It is also the first game in 19 years to advance the history of the series, a prospect that has undoubtedly helped the game become successful not only among franchise devotees, but curious newcomers as well.

After all these years, there is a lot of potential here for the Metroid franchise, but it will require investment and attention from Nintendo. It can’t just be new games, either.

Focus more on moving forward and backward

Metroid Dread Castaway EmmiSource: iMore

Now, more than ever, it’s time for Nintendo to pay more attention to Metroid. The success of Metroid Dread is a great start, but there is still a long way to go. Metroid Prime 4 is in development, so with the strong sales of the Nintendo Switch, it’s strange that fans can’t play any of the previous games. Nintendo has shown its willingness to bring fairly straightforward ports from the Wii and now the Nintendo 64 to the Switch, so why not the Metroid Prime trilogy?

Now is the time for Nintendo to pay more attention to Metroid.

Nintendo’s Game 1 is more successful on the Switch across the board than on previous consoles, so Nintendo should look into that for Metroid. Embracing at least some of Metroid’s past and adding the Prime sub-series to the list of the best Nintendo Switch games available will, in turn, pave the way for greater success in the previously announced Metroid Prime 4.

It’s also time for Nintendo to start delivering updates on Metroid Prime 4 itself. We understand why the publisher has decided to keep things fairly secret until now. After all, the game, first announced at E3 2017 as being developed by Bandai Namco, essentially resumed development in January 2019, with Nintendo confirming that the game will now be run by longtime series veterans of Retro Studios. Losing two years like that probably set the plans back, and it’s before the COVID-19 pandemic forever changed the gaming industry and caused massive delays. Analysts warn that these delays will continue until 2022, so certainly, there are aspects of this that are beyond Nintendo’s control.

But even with these challenges, even a small update on the game would be appreciated. Even Nintendo is no stranger to first glances at the games, sharing snippets or details of the gameplay changes. What new ideas does Metroid Prime 4 bring to the franchise and first-person shooters as a whole, if any? Exploring this, alongside the introduction of older Metroid Prime games on Switch, would go a long way in keeping the excitement for the franchise alive.

What’s the next step for the franchise?

Metroid PrimeSource: Nintendo

It’s pretty safe to say that interest in Metroid is at a high level at the moment. This can be maintained and developed with some solid disclosures and updates – if Nintendo thinks it’s important. If Nintendo isn’t taking the Metroid franchise seriously right now, I don’t think the company ever will.

Nintendo under no circumstances need do anything. Nintendo Switch sales are showing a truly incredible longevity, with over 90 million units sold and endurance renewed thanks to the new Nintendo Switch OLED. Games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continue to sell without any signs of slowing down, drawing impressive numbers even by Nintendo standards.

Metroid at its greatest success may be less important than other franchises, financially speaking. Still, Samus Aran is a staple and recognizable character in Nintendo’s staple, a character who hasn’t always been treated well in the series’ long history. Yet Metroid Dread understand her and it is fast becoming the most successful game in the 1.5-mile franchise. It is not a coincidence and it is not a lesson to be missed. I even hope that Retro Studios will use his portrayal in this latest release to better define his character in the future.

Metroid Dread Samus Ocean FloorSource: iMore

I want more Metroid games and given the answer to Metroid Dread I’m not alone. Frankly, Samus is really, really cool and it is high time that Nintendo understood that. Waiting years between matches, holding our breath to see if this will be a proper follow-up or a new Federation Force, isn’t exactly indicative of a fanbase that has received many offers in the past.

Samus was one of the first major female video game characters with recognizable power or agency. His games have helped define and create entire genres, inspiring countless others that few have come close to. She spoke in the same tone as the Doom Slayer, Gordon Freeman, Lara Croft and Master Chief. It deserves more attention than the poor sales of games in the past, and that opportunity is finally here, if Nintendo seizes it.

There has never been a better marriage between coach, team and fan base. As colorful as Madden was – a fanatical, soft-haired, double-chinned mess wrapped in polyester and gesticulating wildly – he led a team that established themselves as NFL outlaws, far beyond limits of a sport which, to this day, revere discipline and the respect of the rules above all. The Raiders have adopted a rebellious, motley identity – with matching fluid locks – and, most importantly, hard-hitting. It was an extraordinary collection of talents and strong personalities: Ken Stabler, Fred Biletnikoff, Cliff Branch, Dave Casper, Gene Upshaw, Art Shell, John Matuszak, Willie Brown, Lester Hayes, Jack Tatum and so on. In 10 years as a head coach, the Madden Raiders have appeared in seven AFC or AFL title games and won Super Bowl XI, beating the Minnesota Vikings. The Raiders have never had a losing season with Madden and he was the youngest coach in history to reach 100 wins.

He cared deeply – maybe too much deeply – about his team. His Raiders fell victim to one of the greatest games in NFL history, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ “Immaculate Reception”, and he remained as disbelieving years later as he was when he was. walked into the locker room to greet his players that day.

“He just said, ‘We have f —–.’ “former Raider Phil Villapiano once told me. “And something like, ‘We’ll never get to the bottom of this.’ “

They never did. And Madden continued to lament the play decades later. His obvious passion and enthusiasm for the game – there were times when he was so agitated on the sidelines that it was wondered if he was going to pass out – made him a folk hero to Oakland fans and an endearing and popular star for everyone.

It would also be a waste of his time spent on the sidelines. After the 1978 season, after only 10 years as a head coach and with a sparkling career record of 103-32-7, Madden resigned. He cited the toll the work took him – he had a deteriorating ulcer and was usually exhausted – and, with tears in his eyes, said he was going to do whatever his wife and children wanted and that he would never train. again. He didn’t and was inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in 2006. To this day, Madden’s .759 winning percentage remains the best in NFL history (min. 10 seasons). coach), just ahead of Vince Lombardi (.738) and George Allen (0.712).

“I gave him everything I had and I have nothing left,” he said on the day of his resignation.

Maybe not for training, but Madden had many gone for other football activities. He took what was already the traditional next step for NFL retirees and slipped into the broadcast booth.

After a few years of playing low-profile games, he teamed up with Pat Summerall in 1981 to form CBS’s largest broadcast – and football – duo. Madden was already very popular. An advertising executive working for Miller Lite told Madden that after filming a new beer commercial, more people would know him from this appearance than ever as a trainer. Madden insisted to the executive that he would be wrong. It was not wrong.

“I’m not the same crazy coach who used to storm the sideline yelling at officials,” Madden said in the ad, leaning over a bar. “I learned to relax.

Then, while extolling the virtues of beer, Madden takes to the skies – pacing, waving his arms, screaming. And finally, bursting through a paper facade, his rant continued. It was familiar and hilarious, and it made Madden what he became for another generation of fans: the guy who calls the game and talks like your friends at the bar. It was the magic of television, and he and Summerall became the soundtrack to the NFL, at a time when the game was exploding in popularity. Madden was, once again, an adorable mess, her hair indomitable, her words sometimes scrambled in excitement. Here are some of the most anticipated games slated for release in the first quarter of 2022.

THIS The year saw the release of several AAA games, of all genres, but nothing really remarkable came out of 2021.

While Resident Evil Village and Far Cry 6 were pretty decent, the rest of the big games from major publishers and development companies were pretty abominable. For example, the massive first-person shooter Battlefield 2042 launched with groundbreaking bugs and a host of glitches, leading it to become one of the lowest-rated games in history.

The games between these were just passable. Unlike 2022, it looks like next year will be loaded with highly anticipated titles throughout, most of which are titles that have been pushed back from previous years to allow time for development and polish. subsequent.

Looking at the first quarter of 2022, the following games stand out among the rest.

Pokémon Legends Arceus | 28 january

After the disappointing and arguably unnecessary remakes, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl which released on November 19, fans of the franchise are looking to the release of Pokemon Legends Arceus, as it is by far the most divergent from previous Pokemon games. main.

While the core gameplay of catching and fighting remains, Pokemon Legends Arceus moves everything in the overworld; Pokémon are visible as players move around, with battles and captures taking place without switching to traditional battle sequences.

The game also differs from previous entries in the story, as it takes place in the past, without technology.

Pokemon Legends Arceus is finally about to shake up the tired Pokemon formula.

Platform (s): Nintendo Switch

Dying Light 2 remains human | February 4

Like its subjects, zombies will outlast everything in entertainment media. Despite the surge of zombie games over the past decade, Dying Light 2 Stay Human will (hopefully) release next year, after several development delays continued to push the game back.

Set after the fall of humanity from a zombie outbreak, Dying Light 2 introduces a new character that players can control in their open-world survival horror game. It sounds familiar like most zombie games, but what makes Dying Light unique is its heavy use of parkour and free running as a way to roam the gaming world.

With a heavy emphasis on hand-to-hand combat, Dying Light 2 makes other improvements over the first game. Whether the game lives up to the hype remains to be seen.

Platform (s): PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S

Horizon prohibited in the west | February 18

The sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017, this highly anticipated sequel from Guerilla Games will return to post-apocalyptic America from the previous game and move west, taking main character Aloy through ruined California, Nevada. and parts of Utah.

When the first game came out four years ago, it was praised for its gameplay and combat, pitching players (like Aloy) against human enemies and a wide, wide variety of robots in animal form. The game was also praised for its main character and storytelling writing, which touched on the subject of artificial intelligence and the destruction of the planet’s increasingly finite resources.

The new sequel is expected to expand on the themes of the first game, while also improving its gameplay, with fans eagerly awaiting the new underwater exploration and aerial and vertical combat gameplay.

Platforms: PS4, PS5

Ancient ring | February 25

The next game from FromSoftware, pioneer of frustrating action role-playing video games, Elden Ring is also the company’s first game that sees the collaboration between video game director Hidetaka Miyazaki and Game of Famous novelist George RR Martin. Thrones.

After the successful network test in mid-November which saw select players try out a very small portion of the game over several days, enthusiasm among Elden Ring and FromSoftware’s niche player base is at an all-time high, as many have been exposed to the gameplay and upgraded items. (jumping is now possible) which elevated the game compared to its predecessors.

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S

Stranger From Heaven: Origin of Final Fantasy | March 18

After the game was officially revealed during Square Enix’s E3 2021 livestream, Stranger of Paradise was quickly mocked as the trailer had the main character, Jack repeatedly screaming, screaming, muzzling, contemplating his fiery passion for ” kill Chaos “, the game’s antagonist.

The repeated use and variations of what Jack wanted to do in “Chaos” was the loss of the first trailer, as the internet got down to business and quickly turned it into a meme. Since then, two demos have been released, and due to the game’s unintended comedy and awkward dialogue, the game has apparently achieved cult status of “So Bad Is Good”.

Stranger of Paradise is expected to help Final Fantasy fans until Final Fantasy XVI is released in the indefinite future.

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S

Link is the face of The Legend of Zelda series, but what if another character takes the Master Sword and goes on a journey to fight Ganon?

THE Legend of Zelda The series has Link as the protagonist from the start, but what if the series decides to go in a different direction and put a different character in charge? Link is one of the most iconic characters in video game history and that’s probably why Nintendo will continue to use him as the main character in THE Legend of Zelda series, but a one-off revamp could make for an interesting game and keep things fresh.

There was a lot of speculation that the unnamed sequel to Breath of the wild would feature Zelda as a playable character. That’s because she featured prominently in the first trailer. Zelda also had the chance to show off her talent on the battlefield by Age of Calamity, where she used her magic to detonate armies of moblins. It looks like Zelda won’t be leading the Breath of the wild sequel, as the second trailer for the game showed some gameplay footage, and it seemed to be entirely Link-focused.

Following Breath of the wild is supposed to launch in 2022 and there may be a third entry in the future. THE Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s most successful proprietary franchises and it likely won’t get anywhere, especially given the commercial and critical success of Breath of the wild. The series doesn’t need Link to produce top quality titles, and there is potential in one. The legend of Zelda game without him, but there is also a risk in leaving such a popular character behind.

PRO: it’s a chance to use Zelda characters with a different playstyle

Young Impa Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity Breath of the Wild

Link faced the whole mainline The legend of Zelda games and most of the spinoffs. His playstyle changed depending on the material of the time, but he remained a weapon user with a few magical items that can mimic other effects, such as the ice wand acting the same as a comes out in A link to the past. Link spends most games acting like an agile sword-and-shield-wielding fighter, switching to ranged weapons (like the bow) when the situation calls for it.

A The legend of Zelda game that used a character with a different playstyle would help shake up the established formula. A playable character who uses spells would have a lot more variety in their attacks, but wouldn’t be as agile or durable. A character like Linkle (Link’s sister in Hyrule Warriors) who uses twin crossbows would be almost like a weapon carrier, with a long reload time when there are no more bolts. A version of Sheik fighting with the harp could be like an armed version of how the Ocarina works in Ocarina of time, the player creating different effects by playing different melodies.

This is how the hunting horn weapon works in the Monster hunter series and it would be a great choice for a The legend of Zelda Game. This could be extended with a full party system, which was once intended for A link to the past. The player can control a group of characters and use their individual talents to solve puzzles and circumvent dangers.

CON: Changing Zelda’s playstyle too much takes away her identity

Game Awards 2021 Legend Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 missing Why Pokemon Legends Arceus Nintendo

THE Legend of Zelda is one of the most influential franchises in video game history. It has inspired many titles and has been referenced countless times, both in proprietary Nintendo franchises and in games created by the competition. As such, there are many The legend of Zelda format in the world, with aspects of its gameplay and story structure expanded, parodied and copied. One of the reasons the series has thrived over the years is that it has maintained a specific gameplay loop, related to the way Link explores and fights.

Related: Zelda: Ocarina of Time Dead Hand 3D Art Is A Hyper-Realistic Nightmare

If there was a drastic change in the style of play, the series would lose part of its identity. Even multiplayer The legend of Zelda games (like Heroes of the three forces) gave players a bunch of Bonds to play with and differentiated them by their gear. THE Legend of Zelda games that allowed the player to use other playable characters (such as Hyrule Cadence and Hyrule Warriors) belong to different genres, so it’s not as shocking when the player is chosen for someone other than Link.

PRO: Character-Focused Stories & Zelda’s Turn In The Spotlight

Princess Zelda in Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity

The candidate of choice for a place of protagonist in a The legend of Zelda game that is not Link is Princess Zelda herself. She’s been the damsel in distress several times on the show, and she deserves her chance to use her arcane magic to take down some villains, just like she did in the show. Hyrule Warriors Games. There have been cases in THE Legend of Zelda timeline where a version of Link died, leaving Hyrule helpless. That would be an interesting premise for a game where Link was killed by Ganondorf, and Princess Zelda has to become the hero in his stead.

There are many interesting storytelling opportunities with alternate protagonists in one. The legend of Zelda Game. A story where a young Ganondorf learns of his fate and the player guides his journey down the Dark Road might be a great idea for a villainous protagonist. A character like Linkle might have light adventures in Hyrule, showing a version of the realm that is not threatened with destruction, similar to the Satellaview. The legend of Zelda Games. A different protagonist could lead to all kinds of interesting things The legend of Zelda games and would make a good entry of breath, before Link returns in the next match.

CON: Part of Link’s appeal in Zelda is imagining his personality

One of the advantages of a silent protagonist is that the player puts their voice into the character’s mind and can imagine their reaction in different situations. Giving a voice to a character runs the risk of being hated by audiences, whether it’s having an annoying voice or an unattractive personality. Link himself fell victim to it, during his animated debut in THE Legend of Zelda segments of The super show of Super Mario Bros.. This version of Link was crawling on Princess Zelda all the time and had a boring catchphrase, which gained memetic status in the fan community.

The same goes for Link’s vocal appearances in the CD-i. The legend of Zelda Games. Having a character with a distinct personality might alter the audience’s perception of the story, as many fans appreciate the fact that they are the hero of THE Legend of Zelda games, and are free to imagine their version of Link.

There has already been rumors and leaks in the past that made it clear that Bandai Namco had not forgotten completely of Klonoa. However, the truth is that the character has been missing for many years. And even in early 2019, a animated adaptation of the character.

Today, new clues are emerging suggesting that Bandai Namco could resurrect the franchise ASAPe. Basically a Klonoa’s artwork was posted on a 2022 corporate calendar. It is true that it could just be a work of art, but coincides with the registration of certain trademarks related to the character that have taken place in recent times. You can see it below.

As you can see in the post he shared @Nibellion and Twitter, anime style artwork is included. And although this is a style that still has a lot to do with the saga (even the second game was in cell shading), it should not be ruled out that Klonoa’s comeback was linked to film or television.

As for video games, where there are also possibilities of return, the saga was born in 1997 (1998 here) with Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, a game exclusive to the first PlayStation at a time when Sony got along extremely well with Bandai Namco. The game received very positive reviews and was one of the first games to feature two-dimensional artwork on a three-dimensional rendered background. What many have dubbed 2.5D.

The next opus was Klonoa: Moonlight Museum, which was only released in Japan. for the WonderSwan portable system (1999). Here it was not until the era of PS2, platform for which Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil arrived exclusively in 2001. From there were born games like Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament (for GBA), which never reached Europe, Klonoa Beach Volleyball for PS1 or Klonoa Heroes: Densetsu no Star Medal, which did not even come out of Japan. . However, they were all games from other genres it didn’t have much to do with the original platforms.

If it was a Klonoa: Empire of Dreams platform, for GBA, which also received a lot of praise in its time. Nevertheless, the saga disappeared from the end of 2002 to 2008, in which case the Wii received a remake of the original PlayStation game. Called Klonoa, quite simply, This one featured revised graphics and vocals, as well as some new unlockables.. In recent years (2019 and 2021), registrations of brands like Wind Encore’s Klonoa have appeared. What else, this same month of December 2021 a trademark was registered for Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series UK.

This is the first year that the Hugo Awards have recognized video games with an official category, and the very first winner is Hades.

Hades wins the Hugo Prize

This year something special happened with the Hugo Awards – something that may become relevant to video games in the future. It was announced earlier this year that the 2021 Hugo Awards will include a video game category, and now the winner has been announced.

For those who are not in the know, the Hugo Awards are a series of literary prizes awarded to novels, publishers, artists, etc. around science fiction and fantasy genres. As such, the nominated games were some of the best released in 2020 falling into these categories, including The last of us 2, Spiritist, and Underworld.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

RELATED: Hugo Awards Reveals First Annual Best Video Game Nominees

Out of five games with great gameplay and storytelling, the last of which is the most important for a literary award, it was Underworld who emerged victorious. Considering the competition and the level of quality that the Hugo Awards regularly face, that’s quite a feat. Having said that, it is hardly surprising that Underworld would eventually emerge victorious. The Hugo Awards recognize the work of fans in its own category, and Underworld is essentially a huge piece of complete and magnificent fan-fiction from Greek mythology. After all, not all games allow players to reunite the lost lovers Achilles and Patroclus in the afterlife.

Furthermore, Underworld has a unique twist on the way it presents its story to the player. As a roguelite, Underworld players die and restart a lot, and for a lot of these games it’s a total blockage of progress. Underworld, however, progresses through its story each time the player returns to their primary hub, either through death or a rarer successful run. It also advances the story based on what the player has done and said previously, making it an expanding narrative that feels dynamic like few others. This is one of the reasons Underworld won awards at the Industry Game Awards in 2020.

On top of that, the writing for Underworld is fantastic overall, with the characters being fun, interesting, and surprisingly heartwarming when they interact. It ranges from the deep heart of romance options to the excitement of each god as they offer Zagreus their legendary boon.

Underworld isn’t just a game with a great story, it’s a game filled to the brim with a great story and unexpected things. There are still things players don’t know they can do in Underworld, and maybe even more to discover. This award was a one-off thing, but if there is enough interest, maybe it will become a semi-permanent or permanent category of the Hugo Awards.

Underworld is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
