Big South Champs Defense Conference Schedule Announced
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – The Big South Conference announced the conference schedule for the upcoming 2021-22 women’s basketball season on Tuesday afternoon (September 14).
A total of 18 games are on the program at High Point University, nine of which will take place in the brand new state-of-the-art Nido and Mariana Qubein Conference Center and Arena. That brings the total number of home games for the Panthers to 14 in the Qubein Center’s inaugural season.
The conference roster will begin on December 29 with the Big South opening at Qubein Center against Gardner-Webb in a rematch of the Big South Tournament semi-final game in 2021. HPU then travels to Charleston Southern for the first test drive of the conference season on New Years Day. This will be the first time the Panthers have played a game on the first day of a calendar year in the history of the Division I program.
A home contest with Radford on January 4 will take place after the New Years’ New Years showdown in Charleston, followed by road games at USC Upstate and Winthrop on January 8 and 11 respectively, before a rematch of the Big South Championship Game of the Year. last. Campbell makes his first visit to the Qubein Center on January 15 during the marquee match in the new arena. It features the two finalists in the 2021 Hercules Tires Big South women’s basketball tournament – in which HPU emerged victorious, 62-46, to claim the program’s top spot in the NCAA tournament.
High Point will travel to the mountains three days later for a game with UNC Asheville on January 18 before back-to-back games at their new home. Hampton visits on January 22, and Longwood arrives in town on January 25 before the Purples and Whites return to South Carolina to face the Presbyterian on January 29. HPU returns to the triad to open in February on Groundhog Day (February 2) at Big South, North Carolina newcomer A&T. The four games against Hampton, Longwood, Presbyterian and North Carolina A&T are the only times the Panthers face these teams this season, with PC and A&T not making the trip to the Qubein Center in 2021-22.
The final month of the regular season continues when Winthrop arrives in town on February 5, followed by a game at Radford on February 9. the season February 15 at Gardner-Webb. High Point’s final home games of the season will follow with games against Charleston Southern on February 19 and UNC Asheville on February 23 before heading to Buies Creek for a rematch with the Fighting Camels in the season finale on February 26.
The game against UNC Asheville on February 23 will be the last chance Panther fans have to see the women’s basketball team in action at the Qubein Center. The entirety of the 2022 Hercules Tires Men’s and Women’s Deep South Basketball Championships will be played at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC, marking the first time the tournament has been held at a neutral venue since 2003.
The High Point season kicks off Nov. 9 at 5 p.m., when Elon heads to the first-ever regular-season basketball game played at the Qubein Center.
